Wood Stork (Mycteria americana) is a rare vagrant to AZ. This juvenile was discovered at the Water Ranch in Gilbert, AZ, on August 17, 2009.

After the breeding season in Mexico some juvenile birds disperse and often are found in southern California at the Salton Sea in late summer, but rarely make it to Arizona.

Other images of this bird are in the Wood Stork Gallery.

Details on the species in Arizona and images by other photographers are on the AZFO web site.
